Amari Dotson is built for the chaos. With an electric handle and a fearless approach, he flies through traffic like a spark through a live wire that's explosive off the bounce, dynamic in transition, and crafty enough to slice through a set defense with dazzling dimes. The moment he gets a clean look, it’s trouble. Whether it’s a quick pull-up or a hard drive into contact, he finishes with control and confidence. He plays fast but never in a hurry, with a fierce competitive edge and versatile enough to run the show or get a bucket when it’s needed most. If there’s pressure on the floor, he doesn’t just handle it but thrives in it.
This season, Amari averaged 13.6 points and 4.0 assists per game while shooting .418 from the field and .821 from the line, along with a steal a game on the defensive end. But the biggest jump came in his ability to get to the rim and read defenses. No longer just a spot-up shooter, he became a true dual-threat playmaker, facilitating the offense and scoring in key moments. His offseason focus is locked in on developing a three-point shot off the dribble and becoming a defensive stopper. What fuels Amair the most is the adversity. He learned from tough losing streaks, and now he responds with poise, fire, and a next-play mindset. Every rep, every drill this offseason has a purpose: to add layers to his game and lead his squad with grit.
This spring and summer, Amari will play with Wisconsin Playmakers New Balance E32 17U,a squad that plays on the respected New Balance Circuit. One of the most exciting stops for him will be a high-level tournament in Texas, where the exposure and intensity will be sky-high. His goal is simple: become a lockdown defender, control the pace, and knock down any shot he takes. He’s ready to light it up with his guys again and hungry to make a deep playoff run with purpose.
Off the court, Amari stays active across football and track, but it’s the locker room moments and real conversations that show what kind of teammate he is. He leads with encouragement and clarity as he’s the one pulling guys together after a mistake, laying out what went wrong, then getting the energy back up with his “next play” attitude. He enjoys that leadership role and understands that true growth doesn’t just come from wins, but how you bounce back from the losses.
Adversity fuels Amari's fire. It gets his blood pumping and turns him into a leader with purpose. When things go wrong, he doesn’t hide. He responds. One of the most valuable pieces of advice he’s ever received stuck with him deeply is “Somewhere out there, there’s another player just like you. What separates you is who has more grit, who talks louder, who brings more.” That grit is what sets Amari apart.
I assess that Amari is a tough, versatile guard who brings energy, leadership, and production. His development from a spot-up shooter to a facilitator and rim-attacker shows he’s far from finished. With a growing ability to read the floor, defend on-ball, and make plays under pressure, he brings a unique spark that fuels both ends of the court.
Amari’s skill set translates well to the college level. He has an explosive first step, excellent free-throw efficiency, and natural playmaking instincts. As his off-the-dribble shooting and on-ball defense improve, he becomes the kind of guard who can control tempo, create opportunities, and anchor a backcourt. His leadership and response to adversity are intangibles that every program needs. Coaches looking for toughness, grit, and a floor general with flair will want to keep tabs on him.
Amari is just getting started. With a focused offseason ahead and big AAU competition looming, expect his confidence to surge and his game to rise with it. He has the tools, the drive, and the mentality to become a dynamic force in the backcourt and a serious problem for opposing defenses moving forward. Sray tuned.
