Grayson Scragg is a high-octane, two-way force that brings a relentless motor and fierce energy to the floor. Whether he's slicing through defenders with his shifty handles, pulling up with his deadly jumper, or locking down opponents with suffocating defense, his presence is electric. Grayson's ability to create his own shot off the dribble is a nightmare for defenders, and his quick first step allows him to blow by opponents with ease. Grayson is a dynamic finisher at the rim; he absorbs contact and adjusts mid-air with impressive body control. Grayson’s electric speed is a weapon in transition, turning defense into instant offense, and his court vision allows him to set up teammates in rhythm. More than just a scorer, Grayson thrives as a leader that pushing the tempo, keeping his teammates accountable, and never letting up until the final buzzer sounds.
Grayson is coming off a strong junior season where he averaged 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game, earning First Team All-District honors. His game has reached new heights, with his biggest improvement being his ability to control the pace and dictate the flow of the game. Watching film has allowed him to sharpen his decision-making, making him an even more complete player. With his senior season approaching, Grayson’s goals are to become a Mr. Basketball candidate, leading Donelson Christian Academy deep into the postseason and enjoying every moment of his final high school year. On the AAU circuit with the Tennessee Tigers, he's focused on playing fast, staying aggressive, and proving he belongs at the next level. Defensive intensity is a major point of emphasis, as Grayson understands that locking in on that end will separate him from the pack when it’s time for college scouts to take notice.
What fuels Grayson’s fire is stepping on the court. Basketball is his sanctuary, the place where he finds peace and can showcase his love for the game without distraction. But beyond the thrill of competition, Grayson carries a deeper motivation—honoring his late brother, whose memory pushes him to battle through every challenge with relentless determination. When adversity strikes, he leans on that strength, refusing to back down or lose sight of his purpose. The best advice he's ever received comes from his AAU coach: "Handle hard better." It's a message he lives by, a mindset that goes beyond basketball and into life itself. No matter the obstacle, he embraces it, knowing that how he responds will define him.
But above all, Grayson gives all the glory to God. His faith is the foundation of everything he does, and he never loses sight of the fact that his talent is a gift from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Basketball is temporary, but his relationship with God is eternal. He understands that every time he steps onto the court, it’s an opportunity to use his platform to glorify the One who made it all possible. Sundays are special to him because they allow him to grow deeper in his faith, learning more about God’s word and how to apply it to his daily life. At the end of the day, success is not measured in points, wins, or accolades—it’s about living in a way that honors God and walking the path He has laid out.
To reach the next level, Grayson knows he must continue to set himself apart while embracing the little things that make a difference, such as playing with relentless pace, locking in on defense, and making winning plays beyond the stat sheet. Grayson firmly believes he can play at any level of college basketball, but his ultimate goal is to compete at the DI level. He has already connected with Lipscomb University’s Coach Acuff, a school he admires for its fast-paced system and strong values. The idea of playing close to home while thriving in a high-caliber offensive system excites him, but ultimately, he trusts God’s plan for his future. No matter where basketball takes him, he knows his purpose is greater than the game itself.
I assess that Grayson brings an explosive offensive skill set, elite quickness, and a fearless approach to the game. Grayson's ability to score at all three levels, combined with his high motor and leadership, makes him a valuable asset for any college program. His strengths of shooting, finishing off the dribble, and relentless energy will allow him to thrive in an up-tempo system that values fast decision-making and tenacious play. Defensively, Grayson’s focus on becoming an elite stopper will only boost his stock. Coaches looking for a versatile guard who plays with passion, leadership, and skill should have Grayson at the top of their radar.
I’m proud to say I know this young man and his family. I pray God will lead him to fulfill hiss as dreams and be a role model to other young men.
