Mathey is the perfect floor general who possesses incredible court vision. He seamlessly and effortlessly is able to find the open man with razor sharp precision. Although he thrives and excels at facilitating the ball on offense, his greatest strength is being an efficient three point sniper, who is always ready to deliver with deadly accuracy from three point land.  And you want to talk about defense? This kid is a tenacious, stingy defensive terror. He is a master of the full court press.

His team fell short in the state playoffs last season, and that loss left him with a very bad taste in his mouth. He has worked extremely hard this entire offseason to make certain that history doesn’t repeat itself. This kid thrives on the big stage. The more pressure, the more he dials in.

Playing AAU for the Stars Basketball Club, he played against some serious talent from all over the country and his team won the Championship for the 2nd year in a row. He was playing on an all star team, yet not ONE player was selfish. There was no sign at all of “Me, Me, Me.”  They were the very definition of “team.”

Mathey is an extremely competitive DOG who just loves to win and loves to compete.  He just laughs at trash talk and doesn’t ever allow any opponent to get into his head. Some players duck smoke when facing a real threat, but Mathey asks for smoke! He wants to always guard the opposing team’s best player. No, that isn’t cockiness, that is confidence.

This kid is the quintessential team player who plays with an infectious high energy level and simply makes everyone around him better. He has all the intangibles that any coach looks for. He has all the intangibles that simply can’t be taught. He has all the intangibles that are either inside a kid, or they aren’t.  Plain and simple. He is a clutch player who thrives in big pressure moments. This kid has a very high ceiling and he will only continue to get better and better as he works on his craft.  I’m very excited to know that I can watch this kid make it rain for the next three seasons!
